On the basis of the national level, supply is basically a function of national production and imports minus exports. Worldwide desertification has affected the life of millions of people who depend on the dry land ecosystem. It has been observed that the dry lands are because of the shortage of the water. Thus, desertification is one of the main environmental threat today and a barrier to basic human needs in dry lands. As per (Jason P, 2012) the pervasive but untested desertification redistribution is because of loss of grass cover, this can have global relevance for human-environmental systems which can be at risk due to current or potential desertification. Agriculture Disease Measurement of Disease and Its Effect on Yield Plant diseases are those that either kill the plant or reduce the ability of a plant to survive, produce flowers or fruit. They are caused by micro-organisms normally referred to as pathogens; which include fungi, bacteria and viruses, although it is very difficult to measure the severity of plant disease. There are certain diseases but major plants disease include in which the leaves are not shaped properly; the symptoms cannot be identified and they can be from a few isolated lesions to also collapsing of the entire plant. Moreover there is no relationship between measures of symptoms and the failure to reach achievable yields . Thus it has been observed that the measurement of yield is highly controversial. However, the relation of plant disease to yield is not be very clear and it will need some proper measurement. Moreover 40% of the populations in the world live in regions that directly compete for water resources. Water is very important for irrigation, drinking and for other things thus water is very important. A major concern to maintaining future water supplies is the continuing over-draft of surface and groundwater resources. As a result, there is decline in available surface water and groundwater for irrigation. It has been observed that climatic change has an impact on the global food security and change in water and food supply. Moreover this change in the Climate can affect the production of agriculture and food security by altering the distribution of rainfall, and also the availability of water, land, capital, biodiversity and terrestrial resources. Furthermore, this change in the climate will also have an adverse impact on food and crop productivity, which can affect food security ( Hanjara and Qureshi, 2010). It has also been seen that the global warming can increase yields which can be due to negative effect of fertilizer, by rising presence of carbon di oxide present in the atmosphere, but this can have a negative impact on poor countries. Greenhouse effect on Carbon dioxide An increased level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is the main reason for increase in the global warming. As per certain studies at the Carnegie Institution for Science, in some regions more than a quarter of the warming result from increased carbon dioxide it is due to its direct impact on vegetation. Thus this increase in temperature and also an increase in the carbon dioxide levels have a heat-trapping greenhouse gas. For scientists trying to predict global climate change in the coming century, the study underscores the importance of including plants in their climate models. Plants during the photosynthesis take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, but they also have some other effects, like change in the rate of evaporation from the land surface. Thus the effect of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas have been well known as pointed out by Caldeira. Moreover there is no doubt that carbon dioxide decreases evaporative cooling by plants and that this decreased cooling adds to gl obal warming. Greenhouse effect of higher temperature The greenhouse effect is basically when the short-wave solar radiation heats the surface of the Earth, and this energy is radiated back through the Earths atmosphere as heat, radiations of wavelengths 5-30 µm is absorbed by water vapourand carbon dioxide, which in turn radiate it, thus heating the atmosphere and land and ocean surface. This happens on its own and is natural and this is what is the reason that keeps the Earth habitable. Greenhouse keeps the average surface temperature would be about minus 18 °C, which is same as on the moon. There is a difference of some 33 °C substantially to natural levels of water vapour (60%, or more including clouds) and carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere. In respect to enhancing the greenhouse effect, the particular issue is focused in the 8-18 µm band where water vapour is a weak absorber of radiation and where the Earths thermal radiation is greatest. As methane is stronger greenhouse gas because it has more atoms in the molecule than CO2. The radioactive effect is caused by infrared absorption, and molecules with more atoms absorb more infrared energy. IR absorption is by the electrons that bond between atoms in a molecule and the way those atoms vibrate. Ozone layer depletion can also alter the DNA living creature on the earth. Thus ozone layer is very important for the life in the earth. Shindell, et. al. wrote inNature, that Greenhouse gases warm the Earths surface but cool the stratosphere radiative, and therefore affect ozone depletion. Moreover by the end of 2019, Shindell, et al. expects that the ozone layer may reduce by two-thirds in the Arctic poles. Not only this, the severity and duration of the ozone hole in the Antarctic are also likely to increase, this may be because of greenhouse-gas-induced stratospheric cooling over the coming decades. As reported by NASA researchers and also by European, Japanese, and Canadian scientists, there is a connection between global warming, a cooling stratosphere, and depletion of stratospheric ozone. The report also says that the ozone layer is having a stabilizing effect on the Antarctic poles, whereas ozone levels in the Arctic circle are still falling. Conclusion: As per (Bruinsma 2011), there has to be an increase in total global food production by at least 70 to 100 percent by the end of the year 2050. It’s only then we can adequately feed a global population of nine billion people at that time. It has been already seen that China and India, the worlds most populated nations, and both the country has more than 1 billion inhabitants; each has sustained once a year gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate over 10 years ago that is among the worlds highest 9 percent for China and 7 percent for India, moreover it has been estimated that by the year 2025, Indias total population will be equal to China’s population, thus making India the worlds most populated country. In the western world, agriculture, transport and protect food in the technological development at the end of the 19th ce ntury led to the expansion of the food industry and food preparation shifted from households to industry, so stimulating the nutrition transition. Also because of the population increase and also increased pollution the Ozone layer is getting depleted and is causing global warming and which will be the major cause of plant and human disease. Privacy of Digitized Personal Information Privacy of personal information is a fundamental right of any person. No one wants his/her private details to be known to other people, especially ones who they are not familiar with. However, human society is based on cooperation between people. Society simply cannot function without this vital interaction between two human beings. No one is that capable or skillful enough to fulfill his/her daily requirements alone. The very fabric of society exists because a person has to depend on other people to get things done. Whenever one person talks to another, he/she unknowingly reveals a certain amount of personal information such as physical features, personality, character, etc. It is impossible to hide this information as revealing of this information to other people is unavoidable. In order to fulfill has/her daily wants and needs, a person has to trust quite a number of individuals with some unique information. The process is reciprocal, i.e., the individuals have to also reveal certain information to build an atmosphere of trust. However, human avarice knows no bounds. People always face incidences where their private information is revealed to unscrupulous individuals, who take undue advantage of this information for their own ends. In most cases, this results in loss of credibility or harm to the victims. This is called as identity theft. Therefore, the pros and cons of releasing one's personal information have to be carefully weighed and examined before any hasty so-called remedial actions can be taken. Technology has revolutionized the realm of commerce and industry that we know today. The Internet is the central axis around which all these financial and marketing activ... ...use and propagation of this information to respect the privacy of the individual. Only time will tell if an innovative solution is found to balance the two. Personally, I would prefer the utilitarian approach, as lack of privacy is not going to drastically affect anybody. As a matter of fact, it could mean saving thousands of lives. I wouldn't bother too much if anybody could access my personal information, unless it is used to malign or denigrate me in any way. Legalization of Same Sex Marriages Free Online Research Papers Legalizing same sex marriage, is it right or wrong? â€Å"In 2003 when the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to ban a marriage between two individuals of the same sex† (www.uua.org, 2008) it sparked new controversies and debates all over the United States. This has sparked new issues to be raised in Congress to put into law that marriage would consist of a union between a man and a woman and not two genders of the same sex. This ruling has caused many states to pass state laws banning the union of the same sex and declaring it a violation of state law. â€Å"In 2008 California and Connecticut followed suit with Massachusetts and the Supreme Courts of these states stopped the ban on same-sex marriages.† (www.uua.org, 2008) With this taking place it has caused debates between Religious factors and liberals throughout the country. There are several public figures and non public figures that have an opinion on this issue. The people that are against the issue raise issues like children and the moral issue of the upbringing of the children and the impact that it will have on society for many it is a religious belief that in the bible it says that† a marriage is between a woman and a man for life.† (Matthew 19:6 Good Will Publishers, Inc, 1990) The Liberals have arguments for the marriage of same-sex couples argue mainly that Couples of any sex deserve to be married and have the safety and security that comes along with being married. They also state that it is good for America because the more married couples there are the more successful society will be. I will go into further explanations of the cases for and against same-sex marriages in the paragraphs to follow. In the following paragraphs I am going to present arguments for and against same-sex marriages and why they have such a strong opinion on whether it is right or wrong. I will end with my position on the issue and why I feel strongly about my stance on this issue. Three of the main arguments against same-sex marriage are that the legalization of same-sex marriage would quickly destroy the traditional family, that legalization of same-sex marriages will lead inexorably to polygamy and other alternatives to one man/one woman unions, and that it will hurt the raising of children because they have the right to start with a mother and a father and without one or the other the child is losing the relationship of having a mother and a father. I will now go into further explanation of each issue. ISSUE 1: Legalizing same-sex marriage would quickly destroy the traditional family. Dr. James Dobson position on this issue is that â€Å"same sex marriages cannot co-exist with a marriage between a woman and a man because they represent two opposite ends of the universe.† (Dobson, 2004) If the state was to sanction same-sex marriages it would give the younger generation unclear description of marriage. It would cause short term relationships and confusion about their sexuality, emotional bonding and sexual purity, understanding of lifelong commitments and the sanctity of marriage. It reduces marriage to a partnership not a lifelong commitment to one another under the eyes of God.† It is reduced to only the attractive benefits and sexual convince of a partnership.† (Dobson, 2004) ISSUE 2: Legalization of same-sex marriages will lead inexorably to polygamy and other alternatives to one man/one woman unions. People who practice polygamy are using this issue as a basis for them to legalize polygamy. They are arguing in court that the state must prove that polygamy is harmful to society instead of them proving that it is not. In court cases from polygamist in Utah are citing cases such as Lawrence vs. Texas as legal authority for their cases. â€Å"In the past for the definition of marriage we have fallen back on the foundation of tradition, legal precedent, theology and overwhelming support of the people.† (Dobson, 2004) If we were to allow same-sex marriages it would open the door for other types of marriages like a marriage of two men and five women or one man and ten women. If a court decides to allow the marriage of same sex couples it â€Å"will open the meaning of marriage up to anything that is doable by civil rights and destroy the legal underpinning of marriage.† (Dobson, 2004) ISSUE 3: Same-sex marriage and parenting. The main concern today is, what would same-sex marriage due to children. They pose the issue that every child has the right to start out life with one mother and one father and to take that away from them would be detrimental to their emotional well being. There is no research on what same-sex marriages would do to the future generations of children. â€Å"No society at any time has ever raised a generation of children in same-sex homes. Same-sex marriage will subject a generation of children to the status of lab rats in a vast untested social experiment.†(Stanton) (Bohan, 2008) In foresight there has not been enough research done on the gender preference of children raised in same sex marriages. Children raised in same sex marriages do not have the upbringing of what is proper to society or what it is like to have both a mother and father and the moral upbringing that this would provide. In arguments for legalization of same sex marriages they argue that denying them is a violation of religious freedom (civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions), marriage benefits (such as joint ownership, medical decision-making capacity) should be available to all couples, and denying these marriages is a form of minority discrimination. ISSUE 1: Denying them is a violation of religious freedom (civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions). People in favor of allowing same-sex marriages argue that the concept of a marriage being only between a man and a woman is a religious belief and they believe that homosexuality is a sin. If government starts passing laws based on this reason then they are going against the â€Å"First Amendment of the Constitution because it clearly states that a persons religious views or lack thereof must be protected. â€Å" (Messerli, 2008) In this issue they are raising their civil rights to chose to believe in the religious text or not. ISSUE 2: Marriage benefits (such as joint ownership, medical decision-making capacity) should be available to all couples. Homosexual couples argue that they should have access to all the benefits that a heterosexual couples do. They believe that they should be able to have the tax filing benefits, joint ownership of property, insurance benefits, and be able to make critical medical decisions for the other partner. They also state that marriage is more than a legal status. ISSUE 3: Denying these marriages is a form of minority discrimination. Homosexual couples argue that denying them the privilege to be married is going against the Bill of rights that ensures equal protection and that the rights of minorities should be protected. They argue that denying them this right is no different than telling a black or Hispanic couple that they cannot marry. This is one of their weaker arguments. My stance on this issue is that I believe that marriage between the same sexes should not be legalized. For centuries marriage has always been considered the union of one man and one woman and children should have the advantages of having a mother and a father not two mothers or two fathers living in the same household as husband and husband or wife and wife. I do not hold anything against people who are homosexuals but I do believe in God and the Bible and God had written in several passages that marriage is one woman and one man for life. I always use the example that God made Eve from Adams rib so that he would have a partner in life and that he did not make another Adam. For some this may not be logical to them but when I am discussing this issue it is the best way for me to convey how I feel.
